KOCHI: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court dismissed a writ petition challenging the Government Order stipulating that sanction should be obtained from the high-level committee before registering cases against IAS officials by the Director of Vigilance. The petition was dismissed by the Bench comprising the Chief Justice Rajiv Gupta and Justice S. Siri Jagan. The Government had submitted that the committee consisted of the Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary, Home, and Law Secretary.
Show-cause notice
Justice K. Balakrishnan Nair has directed the Pollution Control Board to show cause why its Engineer at the Thrissur office N.K. Surendran had not been suspended so far despite adverse remarks against him. The court said the Advocate Commissioner appointed in a case had been insulted by the officials at the Thrissur office. The court also asked the Secretary of the Board and officers in Thrissur to be present before the court on November 7 to answer questions. The order was passed on a petition filed by a quarry owner in Kunnamkulam.
Kept in abeyance
Justice K.M. Joseph directed that the resolution passed by the Thodupuzha Municipality nominating members to various standing committees be kept in abeyance. The order was passed on a petition filed by Johmon Ulahannan. According to him, the chairperson had violated a Government Order stipulating that the number of members nominated to each of the standing committees should be equal.
