Child found travelling alone

THRISSUR: The Railway police found a child travelling unaccompanied in the first class bogie of Parasuram Express. The boy, aged about four years, was found travelling alone on October 17 and is now in the custody of the Child Line Thrissur. Child Line officials have requested the relatives of the missing boy to contact them on the phone number 1098. - Staff Reporter

AIE service to Sharjah

MALAPPURAM: Air-India's budget airline Air-India Express (AIE) launched its services to Sharjah from Karipur with the inaugural flight taking off from Calicut Airport on Tuesday at 11.33 a.m. Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed flagged off the flight.

Seminar on river conservation

PATHANAMTHITTA: The one-day seminar on river conservation, jointly organised by the Pampa Parirakshana Samiti and the zoology department of NSS College, Pandalam, was held at the college auditorium on Tuesday.

The seminar was organised as part of the environmental awareness campaign linked to the proposed Pampa Action Plan.

Adoor Revenue Divisional Officer B. Mohanan inaugurated the seminar.

NSS camp at Catholicate College

PATHANAMTHITTA: The National Service Scheme unit at Catholicate College will conduct a three-day camp on `Youth in oblivion of old age' at the college from October 28.

Book release

PATHANAMTHITTA: Poet Kureeppuzha Sreekumar will release the book Ulahannan Enna Melinja Cheruppakkaran, a collection of short stories of the young writer Vinod Elakolloor, at a function organised by the Sahiti Samvadavedi at the Pathanamthitta Town Hall on October 30.

Manamboor wins Cherukad Award

MALAPPURAM: Poet Manamboor Rajan Babu has won this year's Cherukad Award for his anthology `Kavithayude Pettakam'. Mr. Babu has already won four other literary awards for the same work. The award will be given away at a function to be held at Perinthalmanna on Friday afternoon. The award consists of Rs. 10,000 and a citation. — Staff Reporter

Water level in reservoirs drops

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: When compared to last week, the water level of the three major reservoirs of Kerala - Idukki, Idamalayar and Kallada - recorded a slight decline. At Idukki, the level declined from 2,394.16 ft. to 2,393.44 ft., at Idamalayar from 550.00 ft. to 547.54 ft. and at Kallada from 371.39 ft. to 370.34 ft. But, when compared to the water level recorded last year, Idukki and Idamalayar reservoirs were up by 16.02 ft. and 25.79 ft. respectively. — Special Correspondent

Entrance test: admit cards sent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The office of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations has sent the admit cards for the entrance examinations to all eligible applicants for the M.Sc. Nursing and LLM courses scheduled to be held here on October 29 and 30. Candidates for the M.Sc. Nursing entrance test who do not receive the card should get in touch with the office of the CEE on October 28 while candidates for the LLM examination who do not get the card should report at that office on October 28 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. along with a passport-size photograph in order to get the identification certificate, which can be used in place of the admit card. . — Staff Reporter

Attempt to bail out Kunhalikutty: DYFI

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The DYFI State leadership has taken strong exception to what it termed the Government's attempt to save the former Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty in the Kozhikode ice-cream parlour case. In a statement here , DYFI State president P. Sreemakrishnan and secretary A. Pradeep Kumar warned that if the Government tried to bail out Mr. Kunhalikutty, who had vacated office admitting his guilt in the ice-cream parlour affair, the DYFI would put up strong resistance to it. - — Special Correspondent
