Award for NGRI

scientist

Vijay Shankar Singh, a senior scientist of the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), has been selected for the National Hydrology Award for 2000 by the Water Resources Ministry.

Dr. Singh has developed efficient and versatile techniques for estimation of aquifer parameters prevailing in Asian countries. Dr. Singh is associated with development of sustainable groundwater management schemes for different hydrological terrains, according to a press release.

Award for MCH

Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) has received an award instituted by the Credit Rating Information Service India Ltd., (CRISIL) for preparing its City Development Strategy in consultation with its stakeholders - the urban poor.

Chairman of the Standing Committee D. Mohan received the award on behalf of the MCH from the HDFC Chairman Deepak Parekh at a function held in Mumbai on Monday, according to a press release

Invited to world forum

Thakur V. Hari Prasad, founder of Thakur Hari Prasad Institute of Research and Rehabilitation for the Mentally Handicapped, is invited to represent India at the world forum at Oxford University which will be held from July 4 to 9, 2006.

Painting competition

B. M. Birla Science Centre, Adarshnagar, will conduct its annual painting competition for schoolchildren aged between 6 and 12 years on November 5, to commemorate the birthday of the late B. M. Birla.

B. G. Sidharth, Director, said in a press release on Monday that the students would be divided into two groups (6 to 9 and 10 to 12 years).

Each group will get three prizes and certificates of merit. Interested schools can contact his office (23235081/23241067).

Course on study skills

Literacy House, Andhra Mahila Sabha campus, OU Road, will conduct a course on "Study skills and examination techniques" for students of sixth to tenth classes, on November 20 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
