Heavy rain floods roads

HYDERABAD: Heavy rain lashed the twin cities on Tuesday night leaving the roads in several areas under sheets of water. The strong winds that accompanied the heavy downpour continued for nearly an hour. There were reports of uprooting of trees at a few places.

Within minutes of the heavy downpour, several junctions like Begumpet, Khairtabad, Lakdikapul and areas in Secunderabad were flooded in rainwater. Though late in the night, several people who were caught unawares in the sudden downpour could be seen wading their vehicles through the waterlogged roads.At some places, hoardings and signboards came down.

There were reports of a few localities plunging into complete darkness following the heavy showers. Met Department officials said that the rainfall recorded (up to 11.30 p.m.) was 12.3 mm.
