Commodity rates

The following were the rates (per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale market on Tuesday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: groundnut oil-54.50, palmolein oil-39, sunflower oil-48.50, tamarind (flower variety)-21 to 27, tamarind (karipuli variety)-42 to 48, chillies (new)-10 to 15, rice (2716)-13, rice (super fine)-15, rice (sona masoori)-16 to 17, rice (samba masoori)-15 to 16, black gram-35 and red gram-24.25 to 30.50.- Staff Reporter

Power shutdown

There will be no power supply to the following areas on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon for laying 11KV AB Cable in Suryaraopet section: Gulam Mohinuddin Nagar, Brahmananda Reddy Nagar, Visalandhra Road, backside of Rama Corporation, My Home Complex (Visalandhra Road), Nimma Thota Area, Errameda Area, Siva Rama Priya Residency, Dhulipala Residency and Lingaiah Foundry Area.

There will be no power supply in the following areas from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, due to pre-arranged shutdown for bifurcation of overloaded feeders: Currency Nagar, Nagarjuna Nagar, Ramachandra Nagar, Mahanadu Road, Bhadraiah Nagar, Srinivasa Nagar, Bank Colony, Srinagar Colony, K.D.O.Colony, Gurunanak Colony, part of Gunadala, part of Ramavarappadu, Padavalarevu to R.V.Padu Ring. - Staff Reporter

Training classes

The Vijayawada Thermal Power Station (VTPS) in association with the South Central Railway (SCR), has conducted training classes for the loco operators and shunters. VTPS chief engineer S. Krishna Prabhakar Rao presided over the inauguration meeting. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rao said that the training classes were aimed at imparting additional skills to operators on the handling of engines and fuel economy.

Official's visit

Vijayawada municipal commissioner N.Gulzar on Tuesday visited several areas in the first, seventh and 19th sanitary divisions falling in One Town and directed the authorities to attend to sanitation problems immediately. He visited areas such as Kothapeta, Brahmana Veedhi, Vemulavari Veedhi, Potina Narayana Swamy Veedhi, Pothina Appanna Veedhi, hill areas, Housing Board Colony, Indira Priyadarshini Colony, N.S.C.Bose Nagar and New Raja Rajeswarapeta. - Staff Reporter
