VIJAYAWADA: Zonal secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and vice-president of the BJP city unit Y. Jaganmohan Raju has resigned from the party. Bringing down curtains on speculation about his shifting loyalties, Mr. Raju submitted his resignation to the party on Monday, which was accepted by city unit president L.R.K. Prasad. The party's city unit issued a press release on the development, which said: "Mr. Raju used the party for his personal benefits, but did not contribute anything to the party in return." Mr. Raju had joined the party in 1999 after working for a brief period in the Congress. He was a personal assistant to film actor-turned-politician Kota Srinivasa Rao. Despite several efforts, he failed to secure a seat to contest the municipal elections in 2000. Interestingly, he was fielded against Vangaveeti Radhakrishna from Vijayawada East constituency in the Assembly elections in 2004. He gave a tough fight to Mr. Radhakrishna by registering 36,000 votes and stood as his nearest rival. However, the situation was changed after the Assembly elections and complaints poured in against Mr. Raju's performance. "The party decided to take discipline action against Mr. Raju. When we are about to issue a show-cause notice, he submitted his resignation," P.V. Srirama Sai, city secretary of the BJP, said on Tuesday. However, Mr. Raju is not available for comments. His associates said that he was in Hyderabad and was making arrangements to join the TDP.
