STAR PERFORMERS: A team performing a dance at the preliminary round of The Hindu Young World Fest 2005 in Bangalore on Tuesday.
Bangalore: The preliminary round of elocution, debate and group dance competitions was held on the second day of the Young World Fest 2005 on Tuesday. The incessant rain lashing Bangalore did not dampen the spirits of students. They participated in all competitions with zeal. "We did not want our effort to go waste," said a student who took part in the group dance competition.
Outstation teams
It was heartening to see outstation teams perform at the Young World Fest. Schools from Kanakapura, Tumkur and Hosur and Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu participated in the event. Children spoke on various issues at the elocution competition. Leisure, happiness, globalisation, literacy and female infanticide were the topics. A student, who spoke on "treating animals", said: "Killing of animals must be considered as big a crime as killing of humans."
Debate
The topic of the debate was "Disaster management: government responsibility and citizens' role."
High level of energy
"The quality of presentation in dance competitions was excellent and children showed a good level of energy and enthusiasm," said a judge. The finals of elocution, debate and group dance will be held on Wednesday. Flower-arrangement, cartooning, creative writing and collage are the other programmes lined up for Wednesday.
