Power shutdown

Chennai: Power supply will be suspended on Thursday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in STP, Tondiarpet High Road, Selaivoyal, KMA Garden, Iswarya Nagar, Chinnandimadam, Vijayalakshmi Nagar, Thendral Nagar, Kadumbadi, Amman Koil Street and Thiruthangal Nagar in the Kannadasan Nagar area.

ATM inaugurated

The Indian Bank has opened an ATM on the premises of the Police Commissioner's office, Egmore. R. Natarajan, Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai inaugurated it, on Monday.

Service by SMILE

Around 45 volunteers of Selfless Movement Improving Life Everywhere (SMILE) cleaned the Vinnavaraya Perumal temple in Ambattur on Saturday. Volunteers also conducted a blood donation camp at the Mylapore Sai Baba temple on Sunday in which 85 donors participated.

Software contest for students

The Education Directorate of Computer Society of India and the Rajalakshmi Engineering College conducted the first level of the School Students Software Contest on Sunday. Hundred students from 33 schools across the State displayed their logical abilities and programming proficiency in C. The competition was held simultaneously at other parts of the country and the best 10 teams will be invited for the final contest in November.

School gets ISO certification

The ISO 9001:2000 was conferred on the Padma Sarangapani Matriculation Higher Secondary schools on Thursday. The certification that requires systematic filing of documents and transparency in systems is described by the management as a milestone in the history of the Padma Sarangapani Matriculation group of schools.

Maharudhrayagnam

Sringeri Sharada Sevangam is organising its second Maharudhrayagnam from November 11 to 14 at Sringeri. The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Chennai Telephones has installed a dedicated childline at various locations in the city. The toll free helpline is 1098, says an official release.

Hernia screening camp

R.S. Rengan, consultant surgeon at the Venkateswara Hospital, conducted a free hernia screening camp on Sunday. Sixty of the 80 people screened required further treatment.

Jatropha cultivation

ITCOT Consultancy and Services limited is organising a one-day seminar on Jatropha cultivation and marketing at Chennai on October 29. The fee is Rs.3,950 per candidate. The venue is Hotel GRT Grand Days in T.Nagar.
