TAMBARAM: The Pallikaranai police have arrested a 60-year-old man on the charge of murdering a just-born baby boy and burying him at his house in Kovilambakkam on Friday. According to the police, the child was born to the accused, Poongavanam and Santhi, a 26-year-old woman. Santhi was married to Nagaraj six years ago and the couple had three children. The couple separated about two years ago. Subsequently, Santhi started to live with Poongavanam, a daily wage earner. On Friday, Santhi delivered a boy. Fearing that they would incur the wrath of his neighbours, Poongavanam allegedly strangled the child to death and buried the body. The gruesome crime however came to light and he has been arrested and charged under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code.
