CUDDALORE: Annamalai University on Tuesday conferred the Degree of Doctor of Letters (honoris causa) on Anil Kohli, president of Dental Council of India, New Delhi, and S.V.Balasubramaniam, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Bannari Amman Sugars, Coimbatore. Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala presented the citations to the dignitaries. Pro-Chancellor M.A.M.Ramaswamy, V.S.Ramamurthy, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi and Vice-Chancellor, L.B.Venkatrangan were present. The citation noted that Dr Kohli, an honorary dental adviser to Government of India, was honoured for his contributions to dentistry. Winner of many laurels such as Dr.B.C.Roy Award, Padma Shree and Padma Bhushan, Dr Kohli was made use of advanced techniques in clinical dentistry, especially in endodontics and cosmetic dentistry.
Pragmatic industrialist
The citation on Dr Balasubramaniam noted that he distinguished himself as a pragmatic industrialist and a businessman of great acumen and guided the destiny of several companies, including the Bannari Ammal group of industries and the Vedanayagam Hospital. He made outstanding contributions to the sphere of education and was the vice-chairman of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kodaikanal, Member of the Board of Governors of Lawrence School, Lovedale, and Member of the Planning Board of Bharathiar University. Mr. Barnala conferred degrees on candidates.
