HYDERABAD: A woman disappeared from Gandhi Hospital maternity ward allegedly abandoning her four-day-old baby girl. The woman's name was entered as Rageswari of Balamrai of Annanagar in the hospital records. She delivered the baby girl around 11.50 a.m. on Thursday. The woman disappeared on Monday, the hospital superintendent in his complaint with the Chilakalguda police said. The police booked a case under Section 317 (abandonment of child under 12 years of age by parents) of IPC.
Eatery owner ends life
Reportedly driven by pecuniary problems, a food joint owner Venkata Prasad, 35, committed suicide by hanging in the house at Bhagyanagar Colony of Kukatpally on Monday night. His wife Sudha Rani too allegedly attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills but was saved by the in-laws as the latter rushed her to a hospital after finding her in an unconscious state on Tuesday morning. A suicide note purportedly written by Prasad and collected from his bedroom stated that he resorted to the extreme step due to financial problems. The Kukatpally police said they would ascertain the facts after questioning Sudha Rani.
Engineer killed
A private firm engineer Shiva Ganga, 28, was killed when the bike she was pillion-riding hit a four-wheeler parked near Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday. The unidentified man riding the bike sustained serious injuries and was shifted to private hospital.
