Many areas remain without power

Special Correspondent

Supply to be restored after testing submerged electrical equipment

  • 50 poles and 25 transformer centres damaged till Tuesday
  • Power supply to about one lakh consumers in a 50 sq km area disrupted
  • BESCOM pooling men and material from other areas

Bangalore: With the continuous heavy rain since last weekend bringing down electric poles and damaging transformers, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) was unable to restore power to several areas such as JP Nagar 4th Phase, Puttenahalli, Mangammanapalya and parts of Goregavipalya. The roads in these areas are still waterlogged.

BESCOM said that till Tuesday, more than 50 poles and 25 transformer centres were damaged, resulting in interruption of power supply to about one lakh consumers in a 50 sq km area.

However, power supply was restored on Tuesday to Rajanakunte, Byatha, ISRO Layout, Whitehouse, Kengeri, Badrappa Layout, Balaji Layout, Vinayaka Layout, Devinagar, Gowri Apartments, parts of Kamakshipalya, MEI Layout, parts of Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Kumbalgodu, Jayanagar 9th Block, Hosakerehalli Cross, Dwarakanagar, Langford Garden, HSR 4th and 7th sectors (excluding 9th Main). These areas were without power supply since Saturday night.

BESCOM engineers said they are trying their best to restore power supply in rain affected areas by pooling men and material from other areas. Power supply will be restored in neighbourhoods still cut off after the water recedes and after test checking submerged electrical equipment for safety, they said. The power utility is ready with men and material to start restoration work as soon as it is safe.

The public who need any assistance and who come across any tree having fallen on electrical lines or snapped wires have been asked to immediately contact the following telephone numbers: Toll-free (IVRS) 12660 or 1917. Landlines 22287118 or 22287119 or mobile 98442 44638.
