Bangalore: Contrary to reports, the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda will attend the BangaloreIT.in to be held at Bangalore Palace. He will be the Chief guest at the inaugural session. Governor T.N. Chaturvedi will inaugurate the IT.in and Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh will preside over the inaugural function. Mr. Deve Gowda is expected to draw the attention of the information technology sector to the encouragement given by the coalition Government to the growth of the sector. He is also expected to refer to land allotment to IT companies and the difficulties faced by the Government in making such allotments in the light of the growing demand for industrial land. Mr. Deve Gowda is expected to tell IT companies that land allotted to them should be utilised only for software or hardware development and not for construction of hotels and residential townships.
`Event on'
The mega annual IT event will be held according to schedule despite torrential rain that has lashed the city for the past few days. Department of Information Technology officials said that the event will not be postponed in view of the rains. "The event is on. We have sent out invitation cards and foreign delegates have already arrived to participate in the event. How can we defer the event?" an official told The Hindu , denying rumours that the event will be postponed.
