Court notice on reappointment

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the Centre, Kapila Vatsyayan, who was reappointed a trustee of the India Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) in February this year, and IGNCA on a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the reappointment of Ms. Vatsyayan.

Issuing the notices on the PIL filed by Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts Employees' Union affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) through its genera secretary K.N. Valaskumar, a Division Bench comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma asked the respondents to file their replies to the petition by December 7.

The Bench also directed that any further appointment to any post in the trust would be subject to the outcome of the PIL.

The petitioner through its counsel Manoj Kumar Singh submitted that Clause 7 of the IGNCA trust deed provides for a 10-year tenure for a trustee, which in the case of Ms. Vatsyayan, began in 1987 and was over in 1997.

There is no provision for reappointment of a trustee in the trust deed after the expiry of the stipulated term, Mr. Singh submitted.

Murder case solved

NEW DELHI : Three juveniles were arrested on Monday for allegedly killing a 22-year-old man on Jawaharlal Nehru University campus in South-West Delhi on Saturday.

The police have recovered the murder weapon.

On Saturday night, the police received a call claiming that a person named Rajesh, son of a university employee, had been stabbed to death. The incident took place near a residential complex inside the campus.

Investigations by the Special Staff revealed that a criminal, earlier convicted in cases of rape, murder and attempt to murder, had recently been spotted with the three minors residing on the university campus.

The police learnt that two of them were involved in a theft case.

Suspecting their involvement, the police picked them up for questioning. The minors revealed that on Saturday they consumed liquor and were on their way to Teflas restaurant inside the campus premises for dinner when their scooter stalled due to a snag. Rajesh was standing nearby having beer with his friends. When the boys asked Rajesh for a matchbox to light a cigarette, he allegedly abused them.

The three then overpowered Rajesh and stabbed him in the back and stomach.
