NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma on Tuesday declared said had been assured by the Reliance Energy chairman, Anil Ambani, that the agitating erstwhile Delhi Vidyut Board employees who availed of the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) would be paid Rs. 6,000 in form of encouragement wages and ex-gratia before Diwali. Addressing a large delegation of such employees at the DPCC office here, Mr.Sharma said Mr. Ambani had conveyed to him that these employees would be paid Rs. 3,500 as encouragement wages and Rs. 2,500 as ex-gratia amount before Diwali taking the entire benefit package to Rs. 6000. Assuring the employees that no injustice would be allowed to be done in their cases by the private power distribution companies, Mr. Sharma said he had also been assured that the final settlement of the claims of all 4,400 employees who had opted for VRS would be made before November 30 and warned that if such a thing does not take place by then, he would be forced to seek "direct action" against the erring companies and their managements. Stating that the Congress party under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi had been in the forefront for securing the rights of the poor and the labour class, Mr. Sharma said nobody would be allowed to exploit the workers and get away with it. "I will take up with the Delhi Government all such matters and the demands of the employees. If any violation of the tripartite agreement is being done by the private distribution companies then it would be taken note of and corrective measures would be put in place."
