MADURAI: The torrential rains have left a trail of destruction in Melur taluk of Madurai district, marooning several villages, cutting off road links, breaching tanks and submerging crops. Lakshmipuram and Meenakshipuram are the most-affected. District Collector D. Raajendiran, who visited the villages on Wednesday, was besieged by villagers, demanding a direct road link between their villages and the nearby town. They said that students could not attend school in the last couple of days, as their houses were flooded.
