Bangalore: Information technology (IT) companies will now concentrate on secondary cities for better business, said B.S. Patil, former Chief Secretary.

Speaking at a seminar on "Beyond Bangalore-Emerging IT clusters", he said that though there has been a significant presence of IT companies in the secondary cities, success will only come in due course.

He said the metros have been alluring the companies all this while because of infrastructure and manpower available there. But it is essential that the nation on the whole participates in the IT revolution. IT cannot be confined only to the big cities.

Air connectivity to secondary cities has facilitated the entry of corporates. A memorandum of understanding has been signed for the Mysore airport. Air connectivity to Gulbarga and Hassan are also on the anvil.

The four-track Mysore-Bangalore highway is nearing completion. Work is on to double the Mysore- Bangalore railway track.

The Government has considered establishing special economic zones for other companies, besides IT, beyond Bangalore.

The IT Secretary, M.K. Shankaralingegowda, said the benefit of IT should reach other places in the State. About 50 per cent of the engineering students who pass out every year are from Mysore, Belgaum, Gulbarga and Mangalore. He said available talent is an important factor that would drive the growth of IT companies in the secondary cities.
