Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended on Friday in parts of Foreshore Estate area including Rajiv Gandhi Nagar and Nambikkai Nagar between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work.

Overseas study

John Cook, MBA course director of Huddersfield University, will meet students who want to take up higher education this Saturday at Study Overseas Ltd (UK)'s office.

Purandara Dasara Pancharathnam

Eye camp

About 170 people were screened at an eye camp organised by the Hindu Mission Hospital at Ramesh Nagar, West Tambaram on Wednesday. Ten persons were referred for eye related surgeries.

Train diversion

Train No.BA1 Chennai Beach-Arakkonam Local leaving Chennai Beach at 1.20 a.m. will be diverted on fast line and will not stop at Vyasarpadi Jeeva, Korattur, Pattaravakkam, Annanur, Tirumullaivoyal, Hindu College and Pattabiram railway stations.

This will be operational for 14 days from Friday to November 11 due to engineering works between Vysarpadi Jeeva and Villivakkam from 12.40 a.m. and 3.40 a.m., said a release from Southern Railway.

Lata Mangeshkar's Rotary donation

Veteran playback singer Lata Mangeshkar has donated Rs.23 lakhs on Tuesday to the Rotary Club of Madras for construction of two blocks for VHS Senior Citizens Home at Voluntary Health Service premises, Adyar.

Quiz contest

Anna Nagar A-Block Ladies Association will be celebrating Children's Day on November 12 between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at A-88, Anna Nagar East. A quiz contest will be held for those children of classes I and XII. The last date of registration is November 10.

Tree uprooted,

man killed

A cycle rickshaw driver was killed when a peepul tree near Elephant Gate Street got uprooted on Wednesday evening.

Sekar, 50, from Korukkupet had taken refuge under the peepul tree from the rain, when the incident happened.

He died on the way to the government general hospital.
