Mayor M. Bhaskaran Photo: S. Ramesh Kurup
Bangaloreans often leave their cars at home and go outside in autorickshaws, taxis or take a walk. The reason: traffic snarls and lack of parking space. A time may come when people here too are forced to do the same. Lack of parking space is posing difficulties to those driving four-wheelers in the city. Illegal parking is resorted to by people owing to lack of parking space. For example, so many cars are parked on Vaikom Muhammed Basheer Road in the city that other vehicles passing through the road have to squeeze through them. The media have time and again highlighted the problem. It is in this context that the announcement of Kozhikode Mayor M. Bhaskaran that the Corporation will accord priority to developing parking spaces assumes significance. He has even promised multi-storied parking facilities for the city with the cooperation of other bodies concerned.
