Letters to the Editor
It is not clear what prevents the Congress high command from announcing a Chief Ministerial candidate for Jammu and Kashmir. This would enable smooth transfer of power from the People's Democratic Party under the accord signed three years ago. There is already widespread unrest in the State Congress. There are even reports that many MLAs have threatened to resign. To avoid embarrassment, Sonia Gandhi should name Ghulam Nabi Azad as the next Chief Minister. The needless suspense should end.
D.B.N. Murthy,
The Congress should renounce its claim and allow status quo to continue in J&K. This is particularly important in view of the on-going peace process.
K. Rangarajan,
