Thanks to rain for the past three days, Vaigai flows in full form

Ramanathapuram : Many parts of Ramanathapuram district received heavy rainfall for the third consecutive day on Thursday. As a result, there was a good flow into many tanks. Though water was not released from the Vaigai dam for the district, water is flowing in the Vaigai through uncontrolled streams. Officials said it would be useful for filling tanks such as the Big Tank, R.S. Managalam Big Tank and other tanks.

The following were the chief amounts of rainfall recorded in mm during the past 24 hours that ended at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday: Ramanathapuram — 112.6, Rameswaram — 10.2, Pallamorkulam — 12, Mandapam — 23.5, Thankatchimadam — 10.4, Pamban — 11.5, R.S. Mangalam — 41, Muthukulathur — 54, Paramakudi — 84, Kamudhi — 94, Kadalur — 40 and Valinokkam — 73.2.

Warning to hoarders

The Agricultural Department has issued severe warning against hoarders of fertilizers and selling fertilizer more than the stipulated prices.

In a statement, the Assistant Director of Agriculture, M.M. Manavalan, said action would be taken against the violators under Essential Commodities Act. Violators could face seven years imprisonment if they were found guilty.

The following were the prices fixed by the Government. Urea — Rs.251.27, DAP — Rs.486.51, Super phosphate — Rs.177.81, Potash — Rs.231.69, Composite fertilizer 17:17:17 — Rs.421.74, 20:20:20 — Rs.379.02 and 15:15:15 — Rs.363.39.
