CHENNAI: TVS Motor Company recorded a turnover of Rs. 815.36 crore in the second quarter ended September 30, 2005 compared to Rs. 751.52 crore achieved in the corresponding period last year, registering a growth of 8.5 per cent. The profit before tax for the second quarter was Rs, 46.30 crore compared to Rs. 53.02 crore and the profit after tax at Rs. 31.95 crore against Rs. 34.24 crore in the year-ago period. However, the company's profits recorded a 28 per cent growth in the second quarter compared to the first quarter of 2005. With the strong rise in sales consequent to the recent product launches coupled with cost reduction processes, the company is confident about improved profitability in the second half of the year. The turnover in the first six months ended September 30, 2005 was Rs. 1,561.96 crore (Rs. 1,369.59 crore) and the net profit Rs. 56.85 crore (Rs. 61.42 crore). The total two wheelers sold in the second quarter was at 3.25 lakh units compared to 2.95 lakh units in the same period last year, recording a growth of 11 per cent. The company exported 22,954 units of two wheelers in the second quarter of this fiscal as against 12,225 units sold during the same period last year.
