NEW DELHI: India's noted magician, Shankar of Manipal, and his son Shankar Junior, who has been declared "The Youngest Magician of the World'' at the Society of American Magicians Convention in Houston, will be performing with their "Shankar World of Magic'' troupe and staging magic shows titled "Enlightenment through Entertainment'' in various parts of the Capital this coming month. Organised by the Brahma Kumaris institution as part of its philanthropic services, these magic shows are designed to spread "awareness and education in human values, national integration, communal harmony, universal brotherhood, healthy lifestyle, stress management, self-empowerment, drug de-addiction and sublimation of inner vices on the basis of India's ancient spiritual wisdom and rajyoga meditation". While the institution's Om Shanti Retreat Centre in Gurgaon near Delhi will host two magic shows this Saturday, local rajyoga centres of the institution in Delhi will hold such shows in the Tihar Jail premises, Majlis Park, Rani Bagh, Karol Bagh, Palam Colony, Nangloi, Lawrence Road, Rohini and Palam Vihar from November 2 to 15. Prof. Shankar is a self-taught magician from Karnataka who started his career at the age of 14 in 1969. A veteran of 6,000 shows, he will perform his "grand illusion" with a troupe of 20 members including his wife and son. He performs magic shows "for the enhancement of value education in schools and colleges and also for patients in hospitals to help them recover faster". He has been honoured with the Life Time Achievement Award , the Prajapati Brahma Kumaris said.
