New Delhi: The Union Government on Thursday decided to give Rs.7 a kg as subsidy to pepper for exports. The subsidy is announced with a view to providing remunerative price to domestic producers. Announcing this, Commerce and Industries Minister Kamal Nath said this one-time subsidy would be available till March 31, 2006 on first-come-first-serve basis and for a quantity of 20,000 tonnes of exports. While Rs.5 a kg subsidy will be for international trade, Rs.2 a kg is for internal transport, he told reporters. The subsidy will also be available for value-addition of domestic pepper, he said adding that it will not be available to EOU and SEZ units. Any value-addition to imported pepper will not be entitled for the subsidy, he said. PTI
