USHERING IN FESTIVITIES: Crackers are an attraction for both young and old alike. Photo: T. Singaravelou
Pondicherry: You wouldn't have thought that the monsoon was on in full flow hearing the bursting of crackers round here. Dark skies and the rain didn't seem to matter for a moment as the noise of crackers shattered the evening calm. The same thing happened on Thursday when during a small respite in the rain a few crackers burst were here and there. People, who have already purchased their quota of crackers, have started bursting them and lighting their `kambi mathapoos' (sparklers) and `changu chakrams' whiz down the narrow lanes of Pondicherry as vehicles try to negotiate them. The roadside petty shops have been doing brisk sale of small cap guns and roll caps.
Cracker sales are picking up slowly and the main thoroughfares of Pondicherry are filled with people trying to finish their shopping for the festive season.
