LUCKNOW: Authorities in the riot-hit Mau town in Uttar Pradesh are planning to lift curfew completely by Diwali as the situation is fast returning to normal. ``Tension is diffusing and no untoward incident has been reported during the phased relaxation in curfew,'' Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Azamgarh Range) Rajendra Pal Singh told UNI over phone.
Although peace prevailed during curfew relaxation, as a precautionary measure, the district officials would monitor the situation for a few more days before lifting the curfew completely, he added.
The communally-sensitive east U.P. town was placed under indefinite curfew on October 14 following riots.
Seven persons were killed and several others wounded in the communal violence.
