MUMBAI: State Bank of India (SBI) posted a net profit of Rs. 2,438.19 crore for the half year ended September 30, 2005 compared to Rs. 2,140.29 crore in the corresponding period of previous year. The operating profit was higher at Rs. 5,422.40 crore against Rs. 4,676.31 crore in the first half of previous year. The net profit for the quarter ended September 30, 2005 stood at Rs. 1,215.36 crore, registering a growth of 12.34 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous year. Bank's advances grew to Rs. 2,38,351 crore as at the end of September 2005 from Rs. 1,81,721 cror as at the end of September 2004. Deposits grew to Rs. 3,80,052 crore from Rs. 3,37,684 crore. During April-September, retail advances in the personal segment have grown by Rs. 5,757 crore. The outstanding personal segment advances aggregate Rs. 52,208 crore as at the end of September 2005. "The bank continues to do very well in the housing finance,'' it added.
