Sai International Centre opposite Satya Sai Mandir near Lodi Road here at 4 p.m. on Friday. He passed away at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences here on Tuesday night. He was 75.

BHEL contribution to PM's fund

NEW DELHI: The Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has contributed Rs. 3 crores to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund for the earthquake victims of Jammu and Kashmir.

The cheque was handed over to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Santosh Mohan Dev.

Vasant Valley to host debate

NEW DELHI: Vasant Valley School will host the Eighth Vasant Valley Debate for the India Today Cup this Friday. This annual event is keenly contested and draws participants from across the country.

The participants attend a briefing prior to the debate on the criteria for adjudication and to select the topic by a method of elimination. The workshop, held after the debate, is an integral part of the proceedings. It is led by a team of adjudicators who have themselves been debators at various international fora. They provide constructive feedback to each debator.

St. Columba's School, New Delhi, won the rolling trophy in 2004.

Sheila hails Right to Information Act

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said that the Right to Information Act was an effective tool in the hands of people which enabled them to obtain information on cases related to personal grievances, public issues and policy matters. "This would definitely add to the transparency of the Delhi Government," she added.

She was chairing the second meeting of the State Council for Right to Information on Thursday which reviewed the implementation of the Delhi Right to Information Act for the period commencing October 2, 2001, to September 30, 2005.

Hindi courses

New Delhi: The Human Resource Development Ministry's Central Hindi Directorate has invited non-Hindi-speaking public sector employees to apply for admission to Prabodh, Praveen and Pragya Hindi courses through correspondence.

Although the last date for admission is December 31, 2005, ``applications received up to January 31, 2006 will also be accepted as a special case,'' an HRD Ministry statement said on Thursday.

Admission will be made strictly on first-come-first-served basis and the session will start from January 2006 and examinations will be held in November 2006.
