PATHANAMTHITTA: The annual Pilgrim Week in connection with the feast of St. Gregorios of Parumala began at St. Paul's and St. Peter's Church in Parumala on Thursday. Geevarghese Mar Osthathios, senior Metropolitan of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, inaugurated the celebrations in connection with the Pilgrim Week by lighting a ceremonial lamp at the church on Thursday forenoon. The secretary of the Church Synod, Thomas Mar Athanasius, presided. Hundreds of devotees visited the tomb of the saint on Thursday seeking his intercession. Mar Athanasius inaugurated a religious retreat organised by the Akhila Malankara Prarthana Yogam at the church auditorium later. Zacharias Mar Anthonios of the Kochi diocese will lead the holy Eucharist at the church on Friday morning. Mahatma Gandhi University Vice-Chancellor Jancy James will inaugurate a medical camp at the church auditorium on Saturday forenoon. Elizabeth Mammen Mathai and Joseph M. Puthussery, MLAs, will address the inaugural function. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate a cultural meet on October 30 forenoon. A pilgrim meet will be held on the church premises on November 1 afternoon. The festival will come to a close with a holy Rasa the next day.
