CHITTOOR: District Collector S.S. Rawath said that the Southern Regional cattle and buffalo fair and milk yield competitions would be held in Tirupati from November 5 to 9. . Last date of receipt of entry forms is November 5 at 1 pm. Last date for milk yield competition on November 6 at 2 pm.

Crops damaged

KURNOOL: Heavy rain caused serious damage to the agriculture produce brought by farmers to Market Yard for sale here on Thursday. About 1000 quintals of groundnut, 500 quintals of sunflower and 600 quintals of onion were drenched in the rain.

Dies in accident

KURNOOL: A TV attendant in an RTC bus, J. Venkatasubbaiah, was killed and three passengers sustained injuries in a road accident at Alampur Crossroad near here on Thursday.

Stranded fishermen rescued

Nellore: As a result of the timely decision taken by the revenue authorities of Gudur division of Nellore district, around 297 fishermen who were stranded in Pulicat lake for the last three days, were rescued on Thursday.

MAHABUBNAGAR: CPI (Maoists) shot dead a former naxalite Palati Balaiah branding him police informer at Elikal village of Kalwakurthy mandal in the small hours of Thursday.

Illicit liquor seized

ANANTAPUR: About 11,900 arrack sachets being smuggled into the district from neighbouring Karnataka were seized by the Excise Task Force team near Kodikonda checkpost on the Andhra Pradesh-Karnataka border in the district on Thursday. Five persons were arrested in this connection.

Excise officials led by CI Krishna Reddy undertook the seizure operation. - Staff Reporter

Mother's name to be included in certificates

HYDERABAD: Human Resource Development Ministry has asked all ministries and departments and the State Governments to include the individuals mother's name in all certificates and official documents. ECIL device for RAPP

HYDERABAD: Electronics Corporation of India Ltd has handed over the indigenously designed electrical SCADA system, which monitors and controls the parameters of electrical system of a power plant, to the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. The system is meant for use by the Rajasthan Atomic Power Plant.

G.P. Srivastava, Chairman and Managing Director, ECIL, handed over the system to his counterpart in NPCIL S.K. Jain, at a special function held here on Wednesday. - Special Correspondent

Fruit plants felled

ANANTAPUR: About 200 sweetlime plants of a Congress sympathiser were allegedly mowed down by unidentified persons in the wee hours on Thursday at Kallur village in Yallanur mandal of the district.

According to the information reaching here, the plants were two-and-half years old and the farmer, Narayanaswamy, was away from the village when the incident took place. Dispute related to the cooperative election was stated to be the reason behind the act. - Staff Reporter

LAWCET qualifying marks reduced

VISAKHAPATNAM: Qualifying marks in the Law Common Entrance Test 2005 (LAWCET) have been reduced from 42 to 35, according to a GO issued a few days ago, according to its Convener R. Venkata Rao.

``Candidates who have secured marks between 41 and 35 are now eligible to seek admission into the first year LLB (both three years and five years duration) for academic 2005-06. College principals have been authorised to make spot admission,'' he said in a statement here on Thursday.

Revolver seized

ANANTAPUR: Two Town police arrested a TDP sympathiser and seized a .38 loaded revolver and 36 live rounds near Ramnagar railway gate here on Thursday.

Anantapur DSP Karunakar told newspersons that one G. Narasimhulu of Dampetla village in Bathalapalli mandal was caught with the revolver during a vehicle checking by the Two Town police at the railway gate. - Staff Reporter
