Barcelona to strengthen existing ties

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Barcelona will organise an institutional, business and trade mission to Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore to develop and strengthen the existing political and business relationship.

Joan Clos, Mayor of Barcelona, told presspersons here on Thursday that the "Barcelona Business Bridge" will help create greater awareness on these cities and explore business opportunities.

It will also help promote Barcelona as a business centre with strong economic and commercial potential.

"Economic activity is characterised by the predominance of the service sector in Barcelona, which accounts for more than 80 per cent of the GDP, and the existence of a large industrial base. Barcelona has recently specialised in high value added activities like communications, environment services, biomedicine and aerospace," he said.

The business sector in Barcelona is highly internationalised, and 23 per cent of exporting companies in Spain are located here.
