Flaws in voters' list to be removed

VAOs to conduct door-to-door verification; final list to be published on January 20

ERODE: To remove inconsistencies in the voter's list, a fresh list would be prepared, said District Collector D. Karthikeyan on Thursday. As on date 17,73,490 voters are in the list. He said several complaints had been received regarding wrong door number, name and the gender.

Those in need of such corrections could apply to the area election officer.

From November 20, the VAOs of the area would conduct field verification by going door-to-door.

A draft voter's list would be published on December 26 and the final list on January 20.

The Collector said that in the district under the Anthiyodhaya Anna Yojana scheme 35 kg of rice at the rate of Rs 3 had been given to 72,650 persons living below the poverty line.

Further 12,700 are to be added soon. He said in the verification done earlier 1,420 persons were removed from the list.

Renewal of ration cards

He said 7,27,981 ration cards had been renewed. From January to September Food Cell CID, Revenue Civil Supplies officials and Cooperative Departmental officials seized Rs 32,76,990 worth smuggled ration articles. Still the demand for kerosene was more than other articles. Supply of ration commodities are smooth and interior forest areas are being covered.

He ordered the Revenue Divisional Officers to conduct periodical inspections in retail petrol outlets.

He said he had received complaints that last week a retail petrol outlet supplied adulterated petrol and diesel.

However the outlet in charge said rainwater had entered the storage tank.
