NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation has started scrutinising the report of the Nanavati Commission, which probed the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, to re-investigate10 cases against Congress MPs Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler and Dharam Dass Shastri,party leader from Karol Bagh here. A CBI spokesman confirmed that the agency had on Wednesday received the Home Ministry reference, asking it to reopen the 10 cases, registered at the Mangolpuri, Sultanpuri, Subzi Mandi and Bara Hindu Raopolice stations. Seven cases are stated to be against Mr. Kumar, two against Mr. Tytler and one is against Mr. Shastri. The Ministry has also sent a copy of the report to the CBI. "The special crime branch of the CBI has formed teams and they have started scrutinising the Commission report. Only after a detailed scrutiny of the report and affidavits, will the CBI take a decision on re-recording statements and re-registering cases." In a press note, the Ministry said the Government had decided to entrust to the CBI re-investigation against the three named in the report.
