Control room set up at Sriharikota

CHENNAI: A control room has been set up at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) on Sriharikota island to monitor the situation following the warning that a cyclone may cross near the Nellore coast around midnight on Thursday, an SDSC official said.

The resident meteorological office had predicted that a cyclone might cross near Nellore or north of Nellore around midnight on Thursday. The SDSC officials said precautions were taken to meet emergencies and a team was formed to deal with various situations.

Asked whether the first launch pad and the second launch pad, built on the beachhead of Sriharikota island, were affected, he said since it was a standing coast rain water have been soaked up. Besides, the first launch pad and the second launch pad were built at an elevated level and they were not affected. It was raining over the island and chilly winds were blowing, he said.
