Madhukar Sarpotdar is Sena candidate
Special Correspondent
MUMBAI:
The Shiv Sena on Thursday decided to field Madhukar Sarpotdar for the North-West Mumbai Lok Sabha constituency bypoll, party sources said. The seat has fallen vacant following the death of Sunil Dutt.
But Mr. Sarpotdar refused to confirm or deny his candidature and maintained that the executive president of the party, Uddhav Thackeray, would make the official announcement and he would not like to say anything till then.
Mr. Sarpotdar is a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from the same constituency in 1998 when Mr. Dutt did not contest. He was also the leader of the Sena parliamentary group.
Meanwhile, Ms. Dutt filed her nomination papers in the presence of key functionaries of the Congress and her family members.
