Stars and solidarity

The pre-event meet was held in Chennai and the actual programme was here at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, which could be the reason, why the buzz here was more about a fashion show happening elsewhere at the same time.

A `Time for Heroes' event saw Hollywood actor Richard Gere bringing the South Indian film stars like Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Kamal Hasan, Vikram and others on a single platform to speak out on HIV/AIDS. There were a few die-hard fan groups who created a racket whenever the stars were projected on screen.

If Mr. Gere thought he had come to a function of Mohan Babu he is not to be blamed because such was the cheering the latter and his son, Vishnu, got.

Fans did not let Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy or Finance & Health Minister K. Rosaiah speak in peace.

For those with families, the presence of stars was eye candy but they were clueless when a few `conversations' were in other South Indian languages. Ostensibly, the event was made for television viewers.
