ELURU: West Godavari district Collector Lav Agarval said on Friday that efforts were underway to implement an action plan recommended by the Group of Ministers on Kolleru in coordination with the Krishna district administration. Mr. Luv Agarval said at a press conference that the action plan was aimed to drain out the flood waters from the lake into Upputeru by removing weed, encroachments and other natural barriers. A sum of Rs. 4 crores would be set apart for the purpose by the Government, he added.
Obstruction
It may be recalled that the farmers living in and around the lake recently complained to the visiting Group of Ministers that their lives and properties were endangered by floods caused by encroachments that obstructed free flow of water from the lake into Upputeru. A joint meeting of the district administrations of Krishna and West Godavari districts would be held here on Saturday to discuss about implementation of the action plan, the Collector said. The MLAs, Collectors and Superintendents of Police and officials representing Forest, Fisheries, Agriculture, Irrigation, Transco and Revenue departments from both the districts would attend the meeting, he added.
