Kakinada: A former MLA and the Organising Secretary of the district unit of the Telugu Desam Vanamadi Venkateswerarao has threatened to launch an agitation if the government did not withdraw its decision to set up a Maritime Board for administration of minor Ports. He said here on Friday that the proposal was detrimental to the interests of the Port employees and also to the age-old anchorage port. He said the future of Port Department employees would be in peril, if the proposal is materialised. Describing it as an attempt to merge the Anchorage port with the Privatised Deep water port, he said, the employees were very much agitated and the government should reconsider its decision. Moreover, he said, experience showed that the constitution of the Maritime Boards could not improve the service conditions of the Port employees in neighbouring Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. .
