Government asked to put off Hampi Utsav

Staff Correspondent

BJP says it is not fair to celebrate in the wake of rain havoc

BELLARY: Janardhan Reddy, president of the district unit of the BJP, has urged the Government to postpone Hampi Utsav in the wake of the rain havoc in several parts of the State.

In a press release, Mr. Janardhan Reddy has said that it would not be fair on the part of the Government to organise a cultural festival when the people in the neighbouring districts were suffering following heavy and torrential rain causing loss to life and property. He was also making this appeal in view of the code of conduct coming into force with the announcement of elections for the zilla and taluk panchayat elections.

Mr. Janardhan Reddy felt that there was nothing wrong in postponing the cultural festival as had been done in the case of Kannada Sahitya Sammelan at Bidar and urged the Government to postpone the celebrations by a few days.
