CHENNAI: Madras Cements has announced an interim dividend of 50 per cent for the year ending March 31, 2006. The company has reported a rise of 43.8 per cent in its net profit at Rs. 18.81 crore in the second quarter ended September 30, 2005 against Rs. 13.08 crore in the year-ago period. Total income stood at Rs. 247.11 crore against Rs. 196.88 crore.The gross profit, before depreciation and interest charges, has risen to Rs. 52.39 crore from Rs. 42.99 crore. Depreciation claimed Rs. 16.55 crore (Rs. 16.77 crore). Net earnings work out to Rs. 16 against Rs. 11 in the same period in the previous year.
