KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode district panchayat has demanded an information technology complex at Mavoor in place of the factory of Grasim Industries that was shut down a few years ago. The organisations of merchants also made such a demand. The district panchayat in a resolution on Saturday demanded that the IT complex project at Mavoor should be included in the Vision 2010 project of the State Government. It was pointed out at the meeting of the district panchayat that the 400 acres given to Grasim management could be taken back by the Government and used for establishing the IT complex. In a resolution moved by K. Chandran, the district panchayat also pointed out that the IT township would be eco-friendly and generate employment. In another resolution, the district panchayat also demanded assistance for farmers at Kunnummel and Tuneri block panchayats whose coconut trees were destroyed by bud rot disease.
