ERODE: More than 50 women in Erode on Friday raised a hue and cry with the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Minister, P.C. Ramasamy that they were not provided with any flood relief from the Revenue Department.

To distribute ex-gratia payment of Rs 2000 for the damaged huts and Rs 1000 for those partially damaged Mr. Ramasamy, Animal Husbandry Minister, P.V. Dhamodharan, District Collector, D. Karthikeyan and MLA, K.S. Thennarasu visited the Cauvery river bank and distributed cash, free saris and dhotis and also rice to 100 persons.

Assurance on survey

Surrounding the Ministers, Collector and MLA the women said that they were living on the river bank. No official had visited them but they were given food daily.

They demanded funds irrespective of whether the huts were fully or partially damaged.

The Minister assured them that the revenue officials would conduct a detailed survey. Mr. Ramasamy said all the flood-affected persons in Erode, Bhavani and Kodumudi area had been given all relief measures and health officials were camping in the areas, providing medical assistance.

Mr. Damodharan said that there was no outbreak of foot and mouth disease among the cattle.

The Animal Husbandry Department had provided preventive injections to the cattle.

It was alleged that hut dwellers of flood-hit areas, engaged in clearing the marsh, were throwing it into Cauvery. Mr. Thennarasu said that quality food and tiffin had been provided to the flood affected.
