Training in soft skills in Tamil

M.J. Prabu

CHENNAI: "The magic formula for success is right there in one's individuality, it is dormant and all one has to do is to tap it."

This is what G. Seshadri, a soft skills trainer believes in.

Interestingly Mr. Seshadri conducts his soft skill training programmes in Tamil. Invariably, he faces the question: why run a course in Tamil, when he can do so in English? Are there any takers for these courses?

"A number of institutes offer various courses for professionals, school and college students in English. These classes are in good demand especially with students and executives in the city who want to hone their interpersonal skills. But society is not made up of only people living in cities alone.

Rural students who have completed their schooling in villages come to the city for higher education or for a career.

Do you expect a student who has studied in Tamil to attend classes in English?

Though some understand the language to a majority it sounds complex. The objective of my course is to help rural students benefit and make them competent."

In today's competitive world, where assertiveness, talent and knowledge dominate the scene, such classes are sure to benefit rural students in keeping up the pace along with there city counterparts.
