Action against officials for misusing funds

DHARWAD: Criminal action is being initiated against the panchayat secretaries and others in four gram panchayats of Kalghatgi and Kundgol taluks, Umapati, Chief Executive Officer of the Dharwad Zilla Panchayat, said here in a press release today.

In Tabakada Honnihalli village of Kalghatgi taluk, V.V. Guggari, Secretary to the Gram Panchayat, has been placed under suspension following irregularities noticed by the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj in the execution of works. With the report of an investigation confirming the misappropriation of funds, it has been decided to initiate criminal proceedings against Mr. Guggari, former Panchayat President Bassappa Mannappa Tadas, former vice-president of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Committee S.V. Gaitonde and panchayat president Gangavva Fakirappa Ullagaddi.

Instructions to this effect had been given to the Chief Executive Officer of Taluk Panchayat Samiti Kalghatgi and the latter filed a complaint with the Kalghtatgi Taluk Police on Tuesday. Similar action is taken against in-charge secretary of Yaraguppi and Gudenakatti Panchayats Y.S. Harakuni, in-charge engineer of Gowdageri and Mattikatti gram panchayats Ramappa, in Kundgol taluk on charges of misappropriation.
