Metro service on Diwali

NEW DELHI: On account of Diwali on November 1, the last Delhi Metro train service will be at 8 p.m. from Rithala, Dilli Vishwavidyalaya (Delhi University) and Central Secretariat.

The last train service from Shahdara on Tuesday will start at 8-10 p.m. The last connecting train at Kashmere Gate (underground) will be available at 8-38 p.m.

Modern School

sends relief

NEW DELHI: The students and staff of Modern School, Barakhamba Road, despatched a consignment of 5,000 blankets for the earthquake victims of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. A blood donation camp was also organised.

The Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Tourism, Amitabh Kant, the chairperson of the school's managing committee, Lala Ashok Pratap Singh, and Anjali Gopalan of Naaz Foundation were the chief guests.

The Principal, Lata Vaidyanathan, said a large number of former students staying in and around Delhi had donated blood and given away blankets for the victims of the disaster.

`Anti-cracker week'

NEW DELHI: To spread the message of a pollution-free Diwali, Hillwoods Academy organised an "Anti-Cracker Week" at its Preet Vihar premises.

The weeklong event started with slogan writing and poster making competitions to spread the message, "Say no to crackers". The students took an oath in the school assembly that they would not burn crackers this year so as to keep the environment pollution-free and save the children engaged in hazardous fireworks factories.

Protest over rising crime against women

NEW DELHI: The Delhi State Committee of Pragatisheel Mahila Sangathan (PMS) held a demonstration outside Gandhi Memorial Hall on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg here on Saturday in protest against increasing incidents of eve-teasing and criminal assaults on women.

Shouting slogans like "Disband Delhi Police Force", "Take Action Against Senior Police Officers" and "Stop Heavy Inflow of Imperialist Culture", the demonstrators led by PMS leaders tried to march towards Delhi Police headquarters but were prevented from going ahead.

Accusing the Delhi police of inaction against the guilty, PMS general secretary Poonam Kaushik said: "That is why those accused in the Mayapuri and Dhaula Kuan rape cases have not been arrested so far."

Bail granted

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Saturday granted bail to a man accused of evading customs duty to the tune of Rs 26 crores.

Additional Sessions Judge V.P. Vaish granted bail to Vikas Aggarwal, proprietor of M/S V-4 Manufacturing Company based in Noida Special Economic Zone (NSEZ), on providing a personal bond of Rs. 2 lakh, and two sureties of like amount.
