SEEKING REDRESSAL: Members of Karnataka State Aided ITI Employees' Association submitting a memorandum to Bommanahalli, Headquaters Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner in Dharwad on Saturday.
DHARWAD: Employees of aided Industrial Training Institutes took out a rally and staged dharna here on Friday under the aegis of Karnataka State Aided ITI Employees Union, pressing for various demands. The protestors gathered at the Kadapa Maidan from where the rally began. The rally passed through various roads of the city before reaching the office of Deputy Commissioner. Addressing the protestors, Puttanna and Maritibbegowda, members of Legislative Council, urged the State Government to take steps to meet the demands of the ITI employees at the earliest. The employees said that the grant-in-aid to the ITIs should be increased from 75 per cent to 100 percent and the Government should announce a "uniform grant-in-aid policy" for all the educational institutions in the State. They alleged that because of the partisan attitude of the State Government, several ITIs getting grant-in-aid are facing problems and even the students studying in such colleges are being deprived of several opportunities. They later staged one-day dharna before the office of the Deputy Commissioner. A memorandum in this regard was submitted to Bommanahalli, Headquarters Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner.
