Mayor yet to sign resolution

Staff Correspondent

Belgaum: Belgaum Mayor Vijay More seems to have become cautious vis-a-vis the controversial resolution supporting transfer of Belgaum and Nippani to Maharashtra — allegedly amounting to contempt of court in view of Maharashtra's original suit before the Supreme Court demanding merger of Belgaum and other Marathi speaking in the Karnataka-Maharashtra boundary to its state — adopted by the council.

He has not signed the resolution copy, corporation Commissioner K.D. Birje told The Hindu on Saturday.

Sources said the Mayor wants to delay signing of the resolution in the light of the State Government taking the matter seriously.

Meanwhile, a senior official from Bangalore telephoned the Commissioner and asked him to forward a copy of the resolution.

At the moment, though the Belgaum City Corporation Council has passed the resolution, it has no official approval of the Mayor.
