TAMBARAM: Hundreds of people flocked to TAMPEX 2005, a two-day philately exhibition organised by the Tambaram Division of the Department of Posts in Chromepet. Despite the heavy rain, children from four schools visited the exhibition on Thursday, when it was inaugurated. The exhibition is the first of its kind organised by the Tambaram Division. There were a total of 146 frames with 3,000 exhibits of rare stamps and postal covers that were put up on display. Nearly 80 entries were received in the competition class, apart from entries from National Philatelic Museum and Army Postal Services Corps in the invitation class. Most of the participants in the competition class were young people between 11 and 18 years of age. A special cover by the Department of Posts on the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited was released on the first day. Special covers on Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency and the Jaya Engineering College were released during the course of the exhibition.
