NEW DELHI:
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and Opposition Leader L.K. Advani on Saturday expressed shock over the blasts here.
In a message from Tripura, Dr. Singh asserted that militant violence would not weaken the country's resolve to fight terrorism. He expressed shock and distress over the blasts and urged the people to remain calm.
Mr. Patil who visited the injured at the hospitals here appealed to the people to remain calm. "The most important thing now is to help people who have suffered in these blasts. Crowds in busy market places where the blasts occurred should disperse. People should go back to their families, allow the police and security personnel to discharge their duties,'' he told reporters.
Mr. Advani also visited the hospitals and the blast sites and appealed to the people to maintain calm and order. He condemned the blasts on the eve of Deepavali and Id that disrupted normal life.
Mr. Chatterjee described the blasts which claimed the lives of innocent people as an "inhuman act."
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) said the terrorist attack was reprehensible as it occurred during festival time in markets which were crowded. It said the Government should spare no effort to track down the culprits and take all precautionary measures to prevent such attacks. While strongly condemning the blasts, CPI secretary D. Raja asked the people to show resilience and face the crisis and challenge posed by terrorists outfits.
