TIRUPATI: After a weeklong wet spell, it was a bright sunny day in the rain-battered Chittoor district. With rain having stopped, the district administration led by Collector S. S. Rawat is busy gathering data on the destruction wrought by the incessant rains. The Collector is holding a meeting late on Saturday night with heads of the various departments to assess the cyclone damage and their quantification in terms of money and units to provide the required relief and rehabilitation to the affected families. A detailed report would also be submitted to the Government seeking assistance. Though the scale of destruction in the district was relatively lesser than the ones noticed in Nellore and other coastal districts, Chittoor roads, electrical installations, irrigation tanks and crops to some extent suffered damage. Meanwhile, the death toll in the rain havoc remained unchanged at eight.
